Cinnamon is a spice that comes from the branches of wild trees that belong to the genus “Cinnamomum” 

There are two main types of cinnamon:

  • Ceylon cinnamon often considered; to be “true cinnamon”
  • Cassia cinnamon or Chinese cinnamonoriginates from southern China, is typically less expensive than Ceylon cinnamon.

Cinnamon has been used from 2000 Years in our Ayurveda and therapeutic medicine.

Action- It had Cinnamoldehyde molecular compound which reduces swelling.

Dosage- 5 g per day

How it can be used-

  • It can be had first thing in morning with water + 4 drops of lime + ½ tsp honey
  • It can be added in soups
  • It can be added in green/herbal tea
  • It can be added in rice/noodles/high carb meals or on bread.

  • It reduces cholesterol, bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglyceride the culprit for heart related issues.

How to decide which one to pick– Smell the spice and check for the freshness and make sure for the sweet smell and store it well in air tight containers.

  • A word of caution, taking too much in quantity would be unwise.
  • People taking prescribed drugs to manage their blood sugar levels should not reduce or discontinue their dose and take cinnamon instead.
  • Not recommended for Pregnant women and lactating mothers.
