Is your hair falling, your scalp itchy and those lustrous locks getting sticky this monsoon? Many of us not aware-What to do? How to deal with it? And so on. Monsoon comes after scorching summer so the humidity in air causes hair fall, itchy scalp. The dust present in the rain pollutes the hair and makes it weak. So I suggest always tell my clients to opt for a mild shampoo in monsoon. Simple natural solutions like “Add a tablespoon of vinegar to a mug of water and use as a last rinse after shampoo. It helps to relieve itching,”
However, good nutrition has a solution for everything. Try these lovely foods and keep your hair shiny and bouncy.
Raw therapy: Certain green leafy vegetables (spinach, coriander, fenugreek leaves, etc) and all raw foods should be avoided during monsoon though they are rich in minerals and help in healthy hair as they contain lot of dirt and are difficult to clean. They contain microbes and germs that can lead to bloating and gastric irritation, which will lead to dehydration. Dehydration makes our hair brittle and scanty.
Opt for steamed salads and stir-fries. Add cooked cabbage, bottle gourd, broccoli to your daily diet as they are rich in iron and easy to clean, safe to consume.
Drink lots of water: If your scalp is oily, proper hydration is very important. Add the juice of lemon and water everyday.
Mineral Intake: Foods rich in zinc like nuts and eggs help in maintaining hair strength.
Iron and magnesium help in maintaining healthy hair. Walnuts are very good for hair as they contain biotin and vitamin E. Dried apricots, roasted sunflower seeds and lentils are better foods to consume during monsoon than other iron rich foods that are susceptible to microbial attack. Avoid raw or stored meats and root vegetables (Beetroot and sweet potatoes).
Do not forget to eat yummy corn on cob as corn helps in absorption of calcium, iron and zinc.
Pull up the protein: Yogurt acts as a great source of protein and makes hair strong. Mix banana and yogurt (freshly set) with skim milk and honey to make a smoothie and have it everyday. Add curd/yoghurt to lunch and dinner.
Boost the Vitamin C intake:
Monsoon attacks our immunity and so our hair. Amla juice and oranges are great sources of vitamin C. Vitamin-C keeps our hair strong as it helps in production of collagen that helps to strengthen the hair capillaries (helps in nutrient supply to our hair). Avoid drinking these fruit juices from street, home made is best!
Application of Natural herbs:
Reetha, Neem and Sandalwood are having beneficial which improves hair growth. Brahmi is another great treatment for hair loss as its antioxidant properties allow proper nourishment and promote hair growth.
Chamomile is a also a good herb for oily hair. It also corrects the scalp water balance which revitalizes the hair
Wash your hair alternate days. Cover your hair well during monsoon.
